10.00 (excellent) AWESOME! The best anime I've ever seen!! Lelouch Lamperouge gets the power of absolute command from a mysterious girl named C.C., and decides to fight the Holy Britannian Empire, which ruled over most of the world with an iron fist, to create a peaceful world for his sister. The events follow each other at an incessant rhythm, with a thousand twists; the characters are many and memorable, the main character most of all: his plans are always complicated but perfectly logical, and his personality and character seem to change completely when he becomes Zero, his theatrical alter-ego. The musics, including openings and endings, are beautiful, the graphics are wonderful and the dubbing perfect. The end is great, brilliant, even if shocking.

LELOUCH LAMPEROUGE: "If the king doesn’t lead, how can he expect his subordinates to follow?"

7.00 (above average) One of the few shonen-ai I saw, I fairly liked it. The story is interesting and the way of fighting is unique, the romantic situations are not excessive, rather very sweet and well fitted in the rest of the story. The characters are nice and well matched. Unfortunately, the story remains poised because the manga is still ongoing.

SOUBI AGATSUMA: "This skin is a nuisance. This skin that separates you and me...it's a nuisance"

Lupin III

Last Updated: Jun 29, 2014

6.00 (average) Episodic anime, very amusing. Arsenio Lupin, a gentleman unerring thief, steals treasures all around the world with his stooges Jigen and Goemon, perpetually chased by the inspector Zenigata. Lupin is irresistible and, despite the many episodes of the series, his thefts are always funny and well-planned. The only villain for whom I feel an unquestioned sympathy! His only weakness is women in general and Fujiko in particular. The fact that she always mocks him annoys me, you'd think he's stupid, 'cause after the hundredth scam a normal person would have learnt not to trust!

INSPECTOR ZENIGATA: "Lupin! Don’t you dare die before I get to arrest you!"

6.50 (above average) Nice characters and nice story, even if I didn't understand much 'till I read the plot... it's a little complicated! This is the only Gundam series I've seen so far, so I cannot make comparisons, but I think the design is better than the others.

6.00 (average) Nice. Miharu is an interesting character, with his indifferent attitude, but the plot is quite slow, studded with empty spaces. The end is disappointing, makes you say "much ado about nothing".

NANA

Last Updated: Jan 17, 2012

5.50 (average) At first I thought that for once they finally made an anime in which not everything is rose-coloured, not everyone lives happily ever after, characters don't always get what they want even persevering, but in the end I found myself so sad ... The end can pass, but all that melancholy that pervades every episode is too much! Nana is an "adult" anime, in some way, that faces issues unexplored in a very real way, but the main character is, to say the least, intolerable, I've never seen a girl more insignificant and fickle than she is. Like: 'Go where the wind takes you "

9.75 (excellent) A relaxing anime, with very calm tones, a good story - though not particularly original - and nice characters. Japanese folklore has always fascinated me so I particularly liked this story whose protagonist is Natsume, a boy who can see Yokai and owns a strange book, inherited from his grandmother, who allows him to have control over Yokai whose names are written on it.
It feels kind of nostalgic..

TAKASHI NATSUME: "I've been through so many meetings and partings. They were like a heavy secret, but when I started to talk about them, they seemed to sparkle..."

7.25 (above average) A beautiful love story, very sweet but with a little bitter aftertaste... A shy young man in love with a woman older than him, a florist widow and the ghost of her husband, who cannot let her go: these are the protagonists. I felt a deep sympathy for Atsushi-san (the ghost), despite his possessiveness and its undisputed selfishness I couldn’t help but being sorry for him. I really liked the idea of this story, but I would have developed the plot in a different way: the whole business of the illustrated book was a bit crazy and I didn’t understand much of it, and the story of the bones was quite gruesome.

ATSUSHI SHIMAO: "My right ear was slightly hard of hearing, stemming from a high fever I had as a child. So she would usually walk on my left side. That was my unspoken reserved spot."

7.75 (good) Amusing but also deep when it comes to tell the characters' stories, sometimes exaggerating in dramatic particulars! It's a bit exhausting watching the battles that usually last ten episodes or even more. Sometimes there are contradictions in the plot, it seems they do everything possible to lengthen the stock, and this is annoying. I don't like neverending stories.

9.50 (excellent) Amusing! Among the funniest anime I've ever seen. The main character is Haruhi, a girl of humble origins who manages, thanks to her excellent grades, to attend a private school for super rich people. Many other characters, which cannot be defined "secondary", revolve around her, and they're all fully characterized. An original story, always entertaining, never vulgar, lacking in the usual romantic platitudes.

TAMAKI SUOH: "Mama, Haruhi’s using those dirty boy words again!"

9.75 (excellent) I don’t give 10 to this because I don’t like the anime, but it’s a pity ‘cause I just adore the manga. It has everything: friendship, love, obsession, madness, loyalty, betrayal, insanity, sadism… sometimes it’s sweet and melancholic, some others twisted and wicked. I read it in few days ‘cause I was swallowed in Wonderland! Although many ideas are taken from the beautiful tale by Lewis Carroll (especially some of the characters and their names), the story is original and engaging, unpredictable and full of twists. Nothing is as it seems… I think it’s the first manga in which I found not even a character to hate: maybe ‘cause they’re all wonderfully characterized and all their action are shown the reasons behind; also because even the bad guys are not totally evil, they’re just so mad! I can’t even blame that psycho, Vincent! On the contrary, he’s one of my favorite characters, along with Elliot and Break (I love how he pops out of nowhere and irritates everybody!!). Even the female characters are not useless, whining and silly as often. Just stunning. As for the anime… the only thing I liked was the ost.

OSWALD BASKERVILLE: "I think of Jack Vessalius rather like water. Like water’s still surface, so very clear that even fish cannot thrive within it. Even if you look hard within it, you will only see yourself reflected. He should be right in front of your eyes… but instead, there is only an unsettling feeling of nothing being there at all."

7.50 (good) I found a little strange that the main character in this movie is a pig... A pig that makes all the girls fall in love with him! It's said that its appearance is due to a curse, but nothing else is explained. I like how Miyazaki makes every movie seem like a slice of life, without too much explanations, always with something left to the imagination. The story is very nice.

Porco: "A pig that doesn't fly is just a pig."

9.25 (very good) Looking at the art I thought this was going to be a childish anime... I was wrong and it was a big surprise! I was absorbed in a world populated by magical girls who give away their soul for a wish, strange oneiric witches borrowed from an old-fashioned puppet theater and unfair logics of survival and balance guarded by hateful beings without feelings. A very original and engaging story, very deep and sad too. I loved the soundtrack (it reminds me of celtic music) and the ending song by Kalafina.

3.50 (below average) I didn’t think they would have ever been able to come up with a female character more nerve-wracking than Sawako, and instead they did it... it really is true that there’s no limit for the worst! Mei is the total nothing, absolutely trivial, always sullen; she moves, speaks and acts with an incredible calm, almost bored, as if nothing cares to her and she’s forced to do so. Her look is scary and all that comes out of her mouth are mumbled phrases. Making all of the school girls seem mawkish blithe geese does not automatically make an insignificant insect look like someone interesting just because she's different. Spineless girls gives me hives! And I have to believe that a perfect guy would care of such a nullity? But some credibility, really! These anime are created by dreamers who have not the slightest knowledge of the social dynamics. Absurd stories like this seem more fake than flying robots!
The opening, a boredom-fetched, makes you fall asleep even before the episode begins. The progressive introduction of new characters to spice up the story doesn’t work, because Mei is simply BORING and UNINTERESTING. The story is trite, predictable, already seen almost 100 times, not original at all.

KENJI NAKANISHI: "I love the way you smile, how you shine when you're happy. The way you act, the sound of your voice... I feel happy every time I see you. I love everything about you, more than anyone else."

8.50 (very good) So demential as to be brilliant! Tenma Tsukamoto, a second high school student, is in love with her classmate Karasuma, who doesn't notice her; Harima Kenji, the school bully, is in love with Tenma who doesn't notice him. A heap of laughs for those who like stupid but terribly funny people, tons of misunderstandings that never become banal, absurd situations with paradoxical expedients and various quotes in parody size! Most of the episodes is very inconclusive and yet you get never tired of laughing and in the end, however, you can see the thread of a story and characters' growth is noticeable. What a pity that the last series, San Gakki, wasn't carried out, replaced by a shameful summary and two final episodes that conclude the story hastily throwing to the winds a masterpiece of comedy.

Indeed they are very similar, with three couple and too much gays, but I liked this more than JR, maybe because I appreciated the setting in the publishing world. And I liked the main couple, TakanoxOnodera (a part from Onodera's screams "This isn't love!" that conclude most of the episodes... just stupid).

Dynamic fights, without so much blood, and lots of laughs. I didn't really like the endings, but the soundtracks are ok. In the second part (from about the twenty-fifth episode onwards) everything become slower and the entertainment falls down to a very disappointing end.

4.00 (below average) A love comedy so classic that more classic you cannot find. The story is very predictable and the characters are fairly flat; the course of the plot is repetitive and boring and there are too many clichès. Even the funny moments don't make you laugh, repeated over and over, always the same scenes.

9.50 (excellent) A beautiful story, actually very simple (it deals with the journey of a girl in a fantastic but a little terrifying land, who wants to get back home), told in so delicate way as to arouse strange feelings of peace and tranquility although being involved in the bewilderment of the protagonist who find herself in a mysterious and alien world. Excellent characterization of the characters, fabulous locations, great musics and even a bit of comedy.

4.75 (moderate) This anime doesn't have a story, it's just a long presentation of characters (twelve boys, each representing a zodiacal sign) that ultimately do nothing. The girl, who is meant to be the main character, is completely useless and each episode focuses on a different boy without dealing about the relationship he has with her. The few things that happen are left open. It's a pity, with such a beautiful cast they could have done much better.

10.00 (excellent) Despite some minor flaws I enjoyed it so much that I must give him 10! The plot is interesting and original, can keep you glued to the TV until the end; two major events intertwine: the meeting of the protagonist Kenji with the large family of his friend Natsuki, and the informatic apocalypse that hits the virtual world of Oz. The virtual world is rendered with a very different graphic from the beautiful pictures of the anime, but it's very nice. The various members of the family are very well defined, perhaps the only one who would need a little more details is just Kenji!

I'm not really a mecha fan, but this is a must see for all anime lovers: the story of a stubborn man and a shy boy (Kamina and Simon) that live in the underground with all the humanity, confined there by some monsters at the service of a king that doesn't allow them to go out. But they reach for the sky! A search for freedom that proceeds in a climax from the struggle for survival in the underground, to the conquest of the surface until the absolute freedom, breaking through the heavens! The pace is relentless with a thousand twists and all the characters are excellently characterized and manage to fully engage the viewer in their actions. Great ost also.

5.75 (average) Nice concept but wasted. The story is about a mortal game that takes place in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo in which Akira, the main character, is forced to participate to get rid of a false accusation of murder. The idea of this game is original but the part that Akira takes in it is insignificant. Moreover, many situations are left without explanation, many questions don't have an answer in the end. And, about the end, it leaves you at the most awkward. Damn!

7.75 (good) A nice love comedy, different from the usual mawkish series full of cliches. Beautiful characters, both primary and secondary ones, well characterized, whose change over the course of the series is evident. From the beginning, actually, you know how it will end, but everything happens in an unexpected way and to tell the truth ... I didn't like that much the last 3-4 episodes. Anyway, great series, without the usual speeches about love, without a minute of boredom, without obtuse or airhead characters you would like to kick; with intense feelings.

TAKASU RYUJI: "I'm a dragon. You're a tiger. Since ancient times, the dragon has been the only beast to equal the tiger. Even if you're not by my side right now, I will leap through space and time and always be by your side. These feelings will never change."
